Dead Before Dying by Kerry Schafer

Dead Before Dying is the first book that I’ve read by Kerry Schafer. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book and the storyline. If you know me, then you know that I love reading Paranormal.

We meet Maureen Keslyn on the day that she’s being released from the hospital. We know that she’s a Federal Agent, who has been given a new assignment. That being, to become a resident of Shadow Valley Manor. A place where it’s residents are being found dead – and not just from old age or an abnormal heart attack. She has to figure out what is going on, and how to stop whatever is happening

Like I mentioned before, I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed the book. Kerry did a very good job with character development. I found myself rooting for Maureen and cheering her on, even though she described herself as an old lady (I mean, she’s old enough to be a resident at an “assisted living” place!). I loved that she was tough – through and through. And even though life wasn’t fair to her, she did her best to keep on going. I was also impressed with some of the other characters; like the sherif, a man that didn’t trust easily but genuinely cared for his town and it’s people. A man that wanted to keep everyone safe.

I appreciate that there was just enough suspense in this storyline. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting to know what Maureen would discover or encounter while wandering throughout the Manor. I definitely consider this a 5 star review, as I personally enjoyed it!
